The Scheveningen and The Hague became part of the German coastal defence system: the Atlantic Wall. One of the main objectives was the prevention of American and British landing operations.

You may remember the story of the Atlantic Wall, otherwise known as the Siegfried Line, which was built by Germany during WW2 to prevent the allied forces from landing in Denmark or any other European country occupied by Hitler during WW2.
